doves, hawks and owls

'Israel's belligerent doves should pause to ponder one small question: if they – the famous peace lovers – have become doves of prey after the death of 100 Israelis, then what do they suppose is going through the minds of those doves and hawks alike who have suffered 1,000 deaths, hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, and scores of villages almost wiped off the face of the earth.'
'But how dare I compare? We are the chosen people, and they are just Arabs.'

Some tough questions that B. Michael poses to the Israeli society

Excellent article! Although I am not a fan of the 'pain game' as a constructive way forward into the future (competing for the right to be more in the right based on who's pain and suffering has been greater in the past), this article frames these issues in a way which makes it almost impossible to keep one's eyes closed. The passage, "if they – the famous peace lovers – have become doves of prey after the death of 100 Israelis, then what do they suppose is going through the minds of those doves and hawks alike who have suffered 1,000 deaths, hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, and scores of villages almost wiped off the face of the earth" is so on target that i can be a litmus test of one's genuine level of humanity.

If one feels your eye's opening as you read it, then there is hope. If one easily dismisses the implications of the statement, then I would say there lurks a racist supremacist who needs to be dealt with accordingly.

I am going to circulate this link to as many of my Israeli and pro-Israel friends and family as possible. Thank you.

Israelis need to do some serious, I mean serious introspection. This means putting on the table for critical analysis not only the atrocities committed by the Zionist state, but also the foundational myths of the Zionist state which allow this to be accepted by Israelis.

A country that tortures and humiliates, when it does not massacre thousands upon thousands of human beings, with a ferocity and almost calm, unconcerned regularity that speaks volumes about the state of mind of its citizenry, especially those in its armed forces, -- that is not a country built on the ordinary myths of most post colonial nation states. It is one that draws its inspiration from the gutter that produced European fascism.

Israelis have internalized a view that seeks to meld mythology into history through the mediating effects of cluster bombs, F16s, Merkava tanks, torture, napalm and white phosphorus, among other agents. The propensity for systematic brutality cannot lead to a stable state of mind/action (as it appears to be among Zionists who can slaughter with the cool confidence of a technician doing his "job") unless it is based on self-identification with deeply held notions of superiority over other human beings. This is the essence of fascism - total negation of universalism wrt humanity. A fascist will say without batting an eyelid: "They are not equal to me, I am better than them, and I will beat them to pulp to prove it to them...and to me, because if I do not prove it to myself, I will collapse into insignificance, and disappear from the realm of my own consciousness- I will cease to be."

To the fascist/Zionist, Descartes' famous "I think therefore I am" statement appears thus:
"I am therefore I kill therefore I am" - such a cycle of insanity is impeccably rational in the mind of a fascist/Zionist. It is his source of existence. WIthout it, he will be terrifyingly (for him!) led back into the comity of human universalism, the family of people, that ocean of petty and amazing things that make up life.

He fears this return. He loathes those who sing praises to it. He resists his own urges to return to it. Hence the ferocity, and the need for excess in brutality.

Israelis need to do some introspection.
